Hurricane Season, Ambisinister, fun times, oh and I was followed....EEKS!

Hello there and greetings from the beautiful island, Grand Cayman.

It is currently the worst part of  hurricane season, which basically means everyone abondons the hotel and goes on all these crazy vacations to exotic places, some which I have never even heard of or couldn't even point to it on a map. Props to them for going to all these crazy places.

I have never really heard of a hotel having an off season and on season and so forth. BUT apparently when it is off season, everyone takes 6 weeks or longer and travels. Pretty nifty if you ask me. It is just weird to hear people say, " Hey you coming back next season?" uhh... this is your job right? I sure hope you are coming back. CRAZY

The sad part about it is that friends leave, and some even transfer. One of the first people I met here, Luciana, is taking her cute family to the island of Puerto Rico for their next adventure. I am so happy for them , but I am going to miss them so much!
From left to right we got the mexican, the 1/2 mexican, the Proper Indonesian and then Luciana the Argentinian

As previously stated, it is currently the worst, roughly, 6 weeks of hurricane season. They form like crazy  in the ocean. We just had a bad storm that was from Erica. It thunderstormed like I have never seen before and the lightning was insane! I was in my bed and would jump because the lightning was so bright, it would light up my room. CRAZY. I have learned to love the rain though. Ive never really been in a thunderstorm where it is still 90 degrees and humid outside. Pretty fun stuff if you ask me.

I do have to say, how much I appreciate our pastry team. They put up with my crazy music and singing, and my jokes that aren't even that funny. They put up with my sass, and are even sassy back. I love  being able to work in an enviroment where everyone enjoys what they do, and for the most part everyone gets along, but most importantly I can be myself.
Team building exercise. P.S I HATE BEING BLINDFOLDED

"Hey Jay look at the camera please!"

I have currently been doing Seven service. I start at 2 and dont get off until like 11:30. this shift is making me feel OLD. I am not a night person, and I get so tired. But on the plus side I get to plate fun desserts, and make cool truffles. Got to look for the good in everything eh?

Staying on the topic of work. So I never really learned this about myself until my dear friend Michael pointed it out. Michael is the one from Indonesia who Is my favorite to impersonate because he is the most proper speaker I know and uses all these fancy words. He gets really sick of me, but hey he is a really good sport! Anyways,  I guess I drop things more often than normal people do. My chef usually tells us the daily word of the day and one time it was Ambisinister. Your probably wondering what it means, right? Well she said she looked it up and my picture was there. Funny huh? Well it actually means clumsy with two hands.  So now not only am I the jokester in the kitchen, I am now described as ambisinister. Hey as long as people are enjoying their time at work and aren't hating their life, I would say I am doing my job!
It was a rough day on the job. First the quiche filling and then Financier. AYE KARUMBA
One thing I have gotten back into is running. I absolutely love it because it is a perfect way to start off my day, and it really clears my mind. I usually run to work which is why I have no crazy bus stories for you this time. Some days I get really ambitious and run 13 miles or any distance over my normal 4.5 miles. Some days I go with my coworrker who is also a great friend, Vickie! She is Caymanian, and is shy at first but she is awesome and is very talented when it comes to being in the kitchen!
I also usually  snapchat it so go ahead and judge I don't really care

That's Vickie and she laughs at all my jokes.

Okay enough rambling, Now to the part that you actually probably wanted to hear about from the title of this post....

On the topic of running, I did have a little bit of a frightning thing happen one day. I was running, obviously, and a guy on a bike rode past me but stopped in hopes that I would talk to him. First off, mama taught me not to talk to strangers, and second off, I am in the middle of a run and don't really want to stop and chat. so I kept running only to have this feeling to turn around. I did, and he was RIGHT BEHIND ME on his bike. I then put on my speedy rocket shoes and  ran real fast. I turned around every so often and yep, he was still there. I then got my pepper spray out and was ready just in case anything happened. I continued to run faster than normal, and yep, he was still there. But he was trying to do the whole let me hide behind a tree and see if she notices that I am still creepily following her. Yes, random guy, yes I do notice that you are following me. LUCKILY, after about two miles, mind you this was probably the fastest two miles I have ever ran in my life, I got to a busy part of the island and he turned around and went back on his way. Exciting stuff huh? Mom if your reading this, I am safe and now have 911 on speed dial.

On Happier terms, it was my sisters birthday this past week! I can't wait until the day we can all celebrate it together, but for now Jessica has to party it up in heaven and in spirit with us while we celebrate here!
I surprised Jen with a birthday trip to MIAMI, so I am looking forward to spending some quality sister time with her at the end of October! Jen has been my best friend and has stuck by my side through thick and thin. She is always there for me and gives tthe best advice. I can't wait to give her this amazing trip that she so deserves! I made her this video and if you feel so inclined to watch it, here is the link! https://youtu.be/2Rtf5Yb0Iu8

In the end, life is pretty amazing here, and I am so blessed to be pursuing my dream. I have wonderful friends, and a great support system back home. I couldnt ask for better friends and family. I of course miss my niece, my family, and friends, but I am truly grateful for this opportunity that I have to be living on an island, being able to learn more about myself and be able to get a little bit out of my comfort zone!

I love this quote that I found. I have so much to learn from my past and mistakes that I have made. I am grateful for the trials and troubles that I have been through because they give me a base and they give me something to learn from. I am so excited for my future and for what lies ahead. But in the end it is most important to remember that the present time is NOW. Make the most of it, and don't hold back. Dream, wish, hope. Follow your dreams, I wouldn't be where I am today if I listened to some people who didnt think Culinary Arts was a good future. I had  this dream to work in the Caymans and now here I am. You are never too young or too old to start living your dreams. Have the faith, step out of your comfort zone, and I promise beautiful things can happen!

Much Love,
Jay.
